Amazon Alexa smart speaker representing Alexa+ AI assistant in India

Amazon has launched its next-generation AI-powered assistant, Alexa+, in India, bringing more natural conversations, Hindi and Hinglish support, personalization, and AI-powered task completion to users.

What is Alexa+?

Alexa+ is Amazon’s new AI-powered personal assistant designed to move beyond traditional voice commands. Instead of requiring users to give short, predefined commands, Alexa+ is designed to understand conversational requests and follow-up questions.

  • Managing schedules and reminders
  • Music discovery and entertainment
  • Smart-home control
  • Shopping-related tasks
  • Meal planning
  • Answering questions
  • Understanding uploaded documents and images
  • Personalised conversations

Amazon says Alexa+ is designed to understand the user’s intent and complete tasks rather than simply provide a response.

Hindi and Hinglish Support Comes to Alexa+

One of the most relevant features for Indian users is English, Hindi and Hinglish support. Alexa+ can switch between Hindi and English naturally, including within the same sentence. Amazon says more Indian languages are expected to be supported in the future.

Alexa+ Is Designed for Indian Speech and Culture

Amazon says Alexa+ has been specifically developed to better understand India’s linguistic and cultural diversity. Teams across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai work on speech recognition, language understanding and AI systems designed for Indian accents, code-switching and real-world household environments.

From Answering Questions to Taking Actions

A major difference between traditional voice assistants and Alexa+ is its focus on task completion. Amazon says Alexa+ is designed to coordinate different services to complete tasks for users, moving voice assistants closer to the emerging category of AI agents.

Why Alexa+ Matters for India

India is one of the world’s most linguistically diverse markets. People frequently use multiple languages, regional accents and code-mixed speech in everyday conversations. Amazon says the challenges of building Alexa+ for India have also helped its teams develop technology that can be applied globally.

Alexa+ Early Access in India

Amazon has opened Early Access for Alexa+ in India. Availability and features may evolve as Amazon expands the service and adds more capabilities.
